Small Ship Wildlife Expedition Voyages to Antarctica and Beyond | 23 days
Emphatically one of the world’s most fascinating wildlife experiences available today, the Antarctic, though a harsh and challenging environment, reveals an astonishing array of species. You will be enchanted by the seals, whales and penguins you encounter on your journey. There are a variety of boats to choose from, each staffed by experienced naturalists. Regular, controlled shore excursions by zodiac will ensure maximum visibility, with minimum disturbance.
Day 1: Fly to Buenos Aires, capital of Argentina
Day 2: Fly to Ushuaia, Argentina’s southern-most city
Day 3: Board expedition boat to start your once in a lifetime journey to the Antarctic. Expedition cruise dates and itineraries vary but may include Cape Horn, the Falklands, South Georgia and the South Orkney Islands. The highlight of your journey will, of course, be the Antarctic Peninsula
Days 4-20: On board your vessel sailing the Southern Ocean bound for the Antarctic. Enjoy daily lectures by on board naturalists and shore excursions by zodiac. At the end of the expedition return via Drake Passage to Tierra del Fuego
Day 21: Arrive Ushuaia and disembark. Fly back to Buenos Aires
Day 22: Fly back to London
Day 23: Arrive London

Fiona’s travel tips
FOR THE LESS ACTIVE: If you don’t want to trek the whole Inca Trail, take the train and hop off early to enjoy a wonderful day’s walk instead.
MY FAVOURITE PLACE: (Once I had got over a slight vertigo moment), sitting atop Wayna Picchu watching the cloud drift over the ruins of Machu Picchu spread out below me.
DON’T MISS: Superb camping at the edge of the Salar de Uyuni. The walk-in tents, though not en-suite, each have a built in stove and the view from the loo is to die for.
TOP TIP: See Lake Titicaca and its floating reedbed islands from the Bolivian side — it’s much less visited than from Peru.
